Archives Update

Our Archives had an Open House back in February and it was a success. We were able to connect with new county residents, artists, county government officials, and interested amateur county historians/genealogists. We plan to do it again next year. We were also able to gain some donations via new equipment and some contacts with our local county officials.  It's always nice to have a good working relationship with those that may sometime in the future want to hand down some old county records!

For those of you that want to visit the Archives for historical or genealogical research you can contact us via phone on Tuesdays at 812-988-6089. You can also contact me via e-mail at: rhonda@browncountyhistorycenter.org

It is always best to contact us first before you visit so we can better help you. The Archives are located at 1934 State Road 135 N, Nashville, Indiana. We are about a mile or so north of town next to the Orchard Motel.

Introduction to the Archives

The Brown County Historical Society's Archives is located just north of Nashville, Indiana on S. R. 135. Our Archive houses anything to do with Brown County History - from genealogy to Circuit Court records to old newspapers to different topics on the county's history since its founding in 1837. For those that want to visit the Archive to do research we are open Tuesdays from noon til 3:00 p.m. If you are traveling from out of state it is best to call before coming. Our bigest topic for research so far as been genealogy. We get occasional requests to research house history, veterans organizations, and old photos. We should have something on about any Brown county topic for the casual researcher to the more experienced.

WELCOME to the NEW Website

Thank you for looking over the prototype of the new Historical Society Website.  As with all things...new, there are sure to be things that need to be changed, fixed, redone, deleted, and otherwise tweaked :)

Please let me know in very specific detail, what you want editted.  Slideshows, photos, etc are easy to fix if I have the photos to upload.

The blog is a place where Ivan can post articles; Rhonda can feature articles and photos from the archives; Jeanette can talk about genealogy; Pete can talk about programs; Julia can write about pioneer village, history center, etc....  you get the picture
