Brown County Historical Society Archives
The Archives is the repository for old records and collections of Brown County history.
Our hours of operation for researchers and visitors are:
Tuesdays and Fridays
10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Call for appointment for other times if needed at 812-988-2899.


Our collections include old Court records, Probate records, Tax Duplicates, school records, records for businesses & organizations, a photograph collection, and a genealogy - history library for researchers. Some of our records are now available on-line.

We will do research upon request. A quick look-up of one hour is available at no cost. If a research topic proves to need more time we charge $10 per hour. Copies of any documents needed are 25 cents per page.

Court Records - We are currently partnering with Family Search to get all of our Probate and Circuit-Criminal Court files digitized. These are available for the researchers at:
familysearch.org

Old Newspapers - Old newspapers from 1857 to 1900 are available to view on Hoosier State Chronicles at: 
https://newspapers.library.in.gov/

Our newspapers from 1918 to present day are available at the Newspapers.com website (with subscription fee).
